As for quality of construction its hard to beat a Xbones.I havent run a Mr.Coily or a Monkey Made so I cant comment on their performance.I would recommend the Xbones or Coily.I havent heard anything bad about either one. They are both high quality antennas. I am running an Xbones Scorpion right now and I love it.

Roger, you sure are sweet. ;D HEHE. Diesel, I'll only fight if someone eats my ice cream. I could get REAL mean then. I've owned a monkeymade and looked at a Coily that a friend had (before I started building antennas). I am not going to talk bad about either one. The Monkeymade is an aluminum antenna with welded coils like mine. It has brass fittings UNlike mine. I don't like the brass / aluminum combo because of corrosion. The Coily is made of steel and very well built also. Nice solid antenna. I don't know how it performs compared to mine so I am not going to tell you mine is better. The monkeymade I had is similar in size to my Hornet. It was slightly heavier and had to be cleaned often (not as often as my Stargun). Antennas are like radios. Everyone has their own preferance. You can take a look at my antennas on my website. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them. Mr. Coily is a member of this forum and I'm sure he will also answer any questions you might have for him next time he cruises through. Take care Diesel, David Here is an e-mail I recieved from a customer in New York. He bought the Hornet, Raptor and a Scorpion like Rogers.: From: BOBMO64@***.com To: xbones@xbonesantennas.com Subject: ANT.TESTING Date: Sat, 28 Sep 2002 07:40:44 EDT HI;DAVID IT'S BEEN A WHILE,BUT I HAVE BEEN TESTING THESE ANTENNAS IN DX-LAND I HAVE ONLY USED THE DX-ANTENNA ONCE IN A TEST AND I BEAT ANOTHER GUY THAT WAS USEING A DOUBLE ANTENNA SYSTEM.BUT I REALLY LOVE THE "RA115-SCORPION" BECAUSE I USE IT ALL OF THE TIME,AND IT OUT PERFORMED THE STARGUN,WILSON "5000", STORM BUILT.TWISTER,7FT.SKIP SHOTER AND A SIGNAL ENGINEER GOLDENROD. I HAVE TRIED IT AGANIST SOME OF THE BEST AND IT STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. IT REALLY GETS OUT. THANKS FOR EVERTHING, BOB.

Let me lead off with; I haven't had a moble rig since '79 when the K40 was the hottest new fangled tenna, with the capacitor that fooled your meter with 1:1 readings. I have played with antenna theory since I was 12. I used to fall asleep at night listening to a talk station from Hilversom, Holland in the 60 Meter band. This show containd everything you needed to know to be an SWL (Short Wave Listener). I wish I still had all of the transcripts that I subscribed to back then! Everything from grounding to elaborate antenna designs. This put my first foot forward to getting an Engineering Degree, but coming from N.J., with a Father that operated high pressure boilers, I was swayed away from electronics to mechanical/industrial. DOAH! I guess with that said, if your still awake, my point. Every antenna (xmit) needs a Ground Plane or counterpose, they must radiate higher than the aforementioned to eliminate directivity as much as possible. That leaves us with four types of antennas; the good old free air 1/4 wave 102", base loaded, center loaded, and top loaded. With those choises, you need to consider which one you'll need to to buy, looking at where you're willing to mount it. Better yet, how serious are you about radio? In my opinion, the folks that rave about a lil wil mag mounts aren't very serious. The 'I don't want to drill a hole in my new $xxxxxxxx vehicle' tells it right off. The center high spot of the vehicle is the place, and requires a hole for direct RF ground. Base load is good here, the coil is protected from inpact, also good off the rear deck lid because of the glass. Off the mirror on a pickup, center load, the coil is still protected, and above the ground plain. Off the bumper you'll need a top loaded model (Firestic) or Mr. 102". All in all, the antennas that Xbones is produceing are for serious operators, heheheh, like a lift kit on an F350 Super Duty means the tenna is higher ;D. The only thing the coil needs protected from is gunfire. So , to go from David's post; steel in the elements 24/7 is not a good choise, let alone heavy; dissimilar metals ARE subject to dielectric corrosian, so the Xbones wins my vote. I need to say that; if Mr. Coily is a member here, I don't know him as such, but would love to look at his site., not to say this post will raise sales for anyones product. I think I just preached to the choir

Not a prob Dave, just a rant calling a spade a spade. Carroll Burnette used to tug her earlobe after every show to say HI to her mother. W. C. Fields after the show would say; "Good night Mrs. Callabash, where ever you are". He never told anyone who she was, some think it was a 'nickname" for his wife. I remember reruns as a kid, and it just popped into my head when I wrote that post.
