that you can have duel finals in a Galaxy 73v? If so who would be the best to do it? Would it make a big difference or would it be overkill for the radio? Thanks, 73's from 007 in Central Maine!!!

You would be much more satisfied and see a lot more gain by just adding an amplifier.73s Rog

If your looking for a mobile amp the Texas Star DX 667V for $385.00 is hard to beat. This is the best amp in that price range. All the features you need and a great talker.Great on AM and SSB. www.cbsattheirbest.com/amps.htmlIf your looking for a base amp the KLV550 or KLV 1000 (low drive) or KLV 1000P (High Drive) give you a lot of bang for the buck. www.copper.com/There are a lot of good amplifiers out there.I am just giving you the best values.

I'll ask a question for the both of us. At what point (in Watts) will the alternator/electrical system need to be modified? I was going to suggest a KLV or a Texas Star in the 250ish region with an Xbones ride around. http://xbones_antennas.tripod.com/. Should be a clean setup!

I have run a 667 on a stock alternator dual battery setup.I had a deep cycle battery on an isolator that I had my amp hooked to running 6 guage wire.Right now I am only running my five pill in my truck on 6 guage with stock alternator and deep cycle battery. One of these days when I ever get done with the upgrades to my mobile such as a new 200 amp alternator,I may put my 8 or 10 pill back in it.I am in an area with to many thieves right now.I took all my expensive gear out of my truck for right now.I have 4 guage run for my big amps. The main things to make sure of when running an amplifier are a low SWR.Good ground.Proper wire guage. An antenna that will handle the rated power.Quality coax.Ample amperage to run it.You can run a bigger amp on a stock system if you dont push it but you have to know what your doing and you wont realize the full output on a stock system. It will not handle the load.It is best if you are going to run anything bigger than a five pill you should upgrade your alternator. The ultimate setup if you have the room and money is to leave your stock alternator running your car or truck electrical system and mount a second high output alternator charging a deep cycle battery which runs your amp. Most newer vehicles dont have much extra room under the hood especially cars. The best you can do in that case would be to upgrade your alternator and run a deep cycle battery on an isolator and mount it in your trunk and run your amp off that battery.I hope this helps. Now if you want to run with the big boys start shopping for a suburban and buy about four Leece Nevilles.LOL

Thanks guys for the info. Thats what i like about this forum when you ask a question you get a good indepth answer that means alot more than a simple answer. I think I will lean towards the 667.After getting that I will get a xbones ant. Thanks again and 73's from 007 in CENTRAL MAINE!

Great info Rog. I use two stock alternators. 105 amp each. One for my van elect. system and one for my radio. One thing to keep in mind, batteries inside a vehicle are dangerous. I always keep mine in a hard plastic box so nothing can touch it. If it ever leaks or explodes (and this can happen), it will be contained. I also use a voltage meter so I can ALWAYS see what is going on with the second alt. 14 volts is all I get but I don't like to "stress" my eqpt. It cost to much for a poor boy like me to repair or worse, to replace . 73s

Ah, But, on a real forum there never answers, just debates from which you pull the knowledge from many. The reason I spoke for you (us) is I don't run a moble rig, but know that $500 could get you an amp that your system wouldn't supply.

LOL, I answer to "ALMOST" anything. Just don't call me Bubba. I can't stand that one. Your right about forum debates, I love reading them. I learn something new all the time. ====================================== " I'll ask a question for the both of us. At what point (in Watts) will the alternator/electrical system need to be modified? " Just my opinion, but the u of m should be amps, not watts. I have a very scientific formula for this so pay close attention: If your headlights dim when the mic is keyed, it is time to make some changes. AIN'T I GOOD? ;D I forgot to mention my 1.0 farad 24v. capacitor between my second battery and the driver.

HAHAHAHA, I never considered 'Bubba", my question, parenthesized, was watts, as in amplifier watts to simplify it for those that don't know ohms law. I was just trying to figgure out what money he had to spend, $400 for an amp, and the lights dim, I could deal with that, the ECM shuts down, much sadness knowing you had a box that was useless until the charging system was upgraded. Don't make me come through this monitor!
PS I hope you know I'm foolin' with ya.
