I'm kind of a fan of the "big uglies." You know, Washingtons, Madisons, stuff like that.
Favorite radio at the moment of mine though is probably the HR 2510. I don't own one but was playing around with one the other day and I'm thinking about picking one up! Either that or a Lincoln.
So what's your transmitter of choice?

Anything with tubes. Pre 1964 are best. Pipeline a EF Johsnon or Heathkit, thru a Palimar 700a. Not only will you have a very loud station. It will be crystal clear and carry a 40db dead key that crunches when you engage the mike relay.

On AM I like to use my '69 Cobra Cam88 I had to attach a fan because the 'ole Astatic JT-30 through my Sound Blaster Live card, useing PAS Products parametric equalizer software, into a Datong RF clipping processor, configured as a speech clipper. All of this hits it pretty hard at full output. WHEW, I'm out of breath and haven't gotten past the audio. Scab on a Siltronics V90 VFO for a little slide to each side . Patch in a '69 Kris Mach 3+3, but first chunk those high dollar, hard to find, 6LQ6 receive tubes, and while your poking around, pull that 6JG6A 17 Watt driver. Plug and Play a new 6KV6A 24 Watt Pentode, and get a matched three 6pi45C Svetlanas, from Russia with love. www.kwtubes.com Your gonna have to change the cathode wiring and add a capacitor to the pi network, but this bootleg 11M amp will now do the 600W it was advertised at, all day long. I picked up a Yeasu FL2000B cheap, and put a new set of 572B's in, and viola. Except, I needed a driver. I couldn't hit it with the 600 PEP out of the Kris, and the 3W from the Cobra left a ton of clean power on the table. Hello variable power mod! Hello, you insensitve 6BQ5 that would let the relay drop out around 1 watt DK. I made an RF senceing relay circuit to key the Kris in Miliwatts if needed. All in all I get good clean broadcast audio, with 95% Mod, touching 1200 watts PEP. All tubes! 73 P

Not A Prob X, If you want to add a million tons of air conditioning, or say 5 to 6 thousand toilets to your shack, call me, I'm a Mechanical Engineer. My radio experience is just "poke and hope" over many years. I guess it just taught me to enjoy reading technical publications over the general stuff, my wife hates that . She has Steven King. fooie I'll wait for the movie. Where's my drink . Ahhh, only if there was a book on the home brew squeezins ;D

Have you read any Patricia Cornwell? She (my wife) has all the King books also, Hardback, seems she can't wait for the paperback version..I remember having a shoebox full or baseball cards. 5 cents got you 5 cards and a piece of hard nasty ole gum. They got thrown away sometime back before anyone thought to collect them.. I thought I was cool when I got a 1962 team card of the Phillies, this lets you know how long ago that was. I checked out your antennas, they look pretty badassed. I don't run a moble rig, my 99 Mustang is to small to mount even this Realistic TRC9A 3 channel. Now that should jog a few brain cells into the past. My 1970 Corvette is showroom stock, not much of a chance that I'll drill any holes in that dashboard . Dangit, I can't even install a cassett player, and show it in the stock class. BTW, did you get your certificate, if not let me know. 73, P

You know sitting back reading this old thread it dawned on me that it would really be great to get this group we have here together. I can't even count the King novels my wife has and she just keeps getting more! With this job I have now I'm too burned out to read when I get home from work, zzzzzz. I'd say all my favorite radios have tubes, love that audio. Good thing I still have the trusty Washington cause everything else in the shack has been pooping out. I just sent the Model T off to Rick Jacker in NY to be revived. One of my best cb's (I should have kept it) was my 148 Cobra. Great audio on am and ssb and a good receiver. Too bad about the new ones. I agree with what was said about the paper weight.

I might outta send ya a pic first. Some folks don't want a 33 year old car in the neighborhood. Besides, a 454, dual 4bbl, 4 speed, seems to be able to pass everything, but a gas station, or a pretty girl. I have antique plates on it now, so sunday is the only day I can drive it.

One of my favorite base stations of all time was the Cobra 2000GTL.Great on AM & SSB.Ahead of its time.If they had continued production and built an export version of this radio it would have out sold all the others hands down.Great looks and performance.I also love the Brownings and Trams.

Had to post to this since the subject of cars came up. I don't have a vette but I do have a '69 Camaro SS. I have owned it since 1972. Specs: 396/375hp, M22 transmission, 355 rear, 4 wheel disc brake option. Hugger orange, black vinyl top and stripes with the injector hood and SS wheels. 73's
